Lesvos, renowned since antiquity, is the island of harmony and dream. It is one of the biggest Greek islands, located in north-east Aegean sea close to the Asia Minor coast (Turkey) which is 5-8 miles away, at the entrance to the Adramytinos Gulf, and north of Chios. Lesvos belongs to the prefecture of Lesvos which also includes Limnos and Agios Eustratios isls. It has an area of 1.630 sq. km. and a coastline of 370 km. There are no extensive plains on Lesvos. The olive groves cover a large area of the island as do the wooded regions. The most important mountains are Lepetymnos, in the northern part of the island, with a height of 968m. and the peaks of Myrivili and Profitis Ilias; In the south there is Olymbos with a height of 967m. as well as Psilokoudouno, at an altitude of 914m. The warm climate of the island , its fertile soil, and abundant water, have created the lush green Lesvos that every visitor enjoys today. The ancient, boundless olive groves, the forest of pine, the thousands of varieties of plants and trees all make for an enchanting landscape.
