The Organising Committee on behalf of the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest, the Department of Geography of the University of the Aegean and the European Geoparks Network, cordially invites you to participate in the Sixth European Geoparks Network Meeting on Lesvos Island., Greece from October 5 to 8, 2005.

The 6th EGN Meeting is organised by the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest, the Department of Geography of the University of the Aegean and the Friends of the Lesvos Petrified Forest Association.

The Meeting will take place on the premises of the Lesvos Petrified Forest Geopark.

Aim

The aim of the 6th EGN Meeting is to discuss recent development and methodologies in establishment and operation of Geoparks as well as their result for the protection and promotion of natural heritage in combination with local development.

New ideas in areas such as Geoconservation, Protection and Enhancement of the Geomorphological and Geological Heritage, Geodiversity, Environmental Education and Sustainable Local Development are welcome.

The 6th EGN Meeting is a forum to discuss the establishment of new links between European and non European organizations dealing with geoconservation, site management and local territorial development.

Therefore, the main objectives of this meeting are:

  • Geological heritage protection and management

  • European Geoparks Network – actual situation and future perspectives

  • Geoparks, geotourism and sustainable development in rural areas

  • Geoparks – attracting the new generation

  • Geoparks as tools for environmental education

  • European and International initiatives on geoconservation and local development
